Researcher loses Ear over Praying Mantis

From Macquarie University in Australia, Brown and Katherine Barry discover why female praying mantis eat their spouse’s heads after coitus. Female praying mantis become more fertile after eating the head.

There were two groups of praying mantis. Ones with their husband’s head still intact and one without their heads. Barry fed both praying mantis radioactive protein which revealed that the female produced more eggs after eating their husbands’ heads.

Both Brown and Katherine were turned on by the experiment. By the next morning Brown woke up with his ear missing. He found beside him his wife happily chewing on something. Sex was becoming listless, he recalled, but he thought he deserved the right to ask for consent from Katherine. He wondered how this would pan out during marriage counseling.
